Dr. Stanley Wayne Davis, 66, of Sanford passed away at home on Monday August 8, 2022. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 18, 2022, at 2:00pm at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service.

Dr. Davis was born in Wake Co. to the late Thomas Hill Davis and Margie Perry Davis. Dr. Davis was a selfless and kind man. He had quietly battled melanoma cancer for the last 10 years while participating in a clinical trial at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Cancer Center in Winston Salem.

Starting early in life he knew he wanted to be a veterinarian. He was alumni of NCSU and Tuskegee Veterinary College. He had both his D.V.M. and a PhD in immunology, parasitology, and biotechnology. He did many amazing things in his life. With his training early in his career he did research for the Agriculture Research Services Zoonotic Division in several areas of the country. During this research he isolated the horse parasite that causes EPM (Equine Protozoal Myeloencephlaits) and the foundational work in immunotherapy. This research was fundamental in improving lives (including his own) of many people and animals.

His practice in Maple Springs Veterinary Clinic was one of his passions. He wanted every client that walked through the door to feel safe and cared for. He felt his patients, their parents and family were his family.

He was a family man who always put his family first, He was a beekeeper, cartoonist, and could play almost any piano piece. He loved to read and was always eager to learn new things. He was a humble man who wouldn’t take a compliment and always thought there were better people out there better than him. He never judged a book by it’s cover and greeted all with kindness and compassion.

One of his favorite quoted was: “The more experience one has in the world and the more he studies and comes in contact with those about him the more he learns that people who live the happiest lives in the world are those who are continually striving, whether seen or unseen, to make the world happy or better by the opportunity given them for having lived in it”. Booker T. Washington, Tuskegee, AL Feb. 8, 1981.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Kathryn W. Davis; daughter Victoria “Monty” Davis; brother Tom Davis (Dee) of Raleigh; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and much extended family and friends.

Memorial Contributions may be given to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center (Dr. Pierre Triozzi) in Winston Salem, NC or The Lee County Animal Shelter or The Temple Theater or The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra or The Helping Hands Clinic.
