Stanley Erwin Obituary

Stan Newton Erwin, beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 74.

Born in 1951, Stan lived a life marked by creativity, generosity, and quiet strength. A talented graphic artist by profession, he brought beauty and clarity to every project he touched. Outside of work, Stan found joy on the water-he was an avid sailor and a proud member of a local sailing team, where he built lasting friendships and chased the wind with passion. In 1994, he was a member of the crew that sailed with the Bermuda Cruising Rally, an experience he cherished deeply. In 1996, Stan demonstrated his remarkable determination and spirit by completing the U.S. Marine Corps Marathon, a testament to his perseverance. Stan was also a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, cheering them on through every season with enthusiasm and loyalty.

Stan was deeply involved in his church community, always ready to lend a hand at events and offer his time and talents. He also found peace in tending to his yard, where his love for nature and care for detail were evident in every bloom and blade of grass.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; his sister, Janet Bennett; his brother, Mike Erwin and his wife Pat; and several nieces and nephews who will remember his kindness, humor, and steady presence. Stan's legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.

Services to honor and celebrate Stan's life will be held in Virginia and back home in Missouri. Further details will be announced shortly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stan's honor to Stevens Memorial Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society, or to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
