Stanley R. Opfermann, age 97 of Kalamazoo, MI, formerly of Monroe, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Rose Arbor Place.
Born November 23, 1926 in Monroe, Stanley was the son of the late George and Sabra (Olmsted) Opfermann. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1944 and attended Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University where he obtained a bachelor degree and a master's degree in education.
Stanley twice served his country in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Army Air Corp. He served during World War II and the Korean War, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After returning to civilian life, Stanley married Joyce M. Bredernitz on August 28, 1954 in Monroe and together raised three children. During that period, he began a long working career as an educator with Taylor Public Schools, retiring in 1987 after 32 years.
Stanley was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Matt Urban American Legion Post 40, AMVETS of Monroe Post 1942, Yankee Air Museum, and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed time spent with his family and socializing with his neighbors. After retiring, he served on the board of directors for Pump Engineering and eScapes in Monroe, and treasured traveling with his wife.

We are very sorry for your loss. Uncle Stanley was always a joy to speak to at the family gatherings. He was genuinely interested in others and deeply enjoyed exploring new topics and ideas with others. He and Aunt Joyce were always very considerate to me growing up and will be remembered fondly.
