Stephen (Stef) Charles Schwed, 85, of Gloversville, NY and North Port, FL passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 in Rochester, NY. He was born on February 9, 1938 in Gloversville, NY to Phillip and Ann Schwed.
After graduating from Gloversville High School, he was stationed in Thule, Greenland during his service in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He later worked at Knight Oil Company as a self-employed businessman selling Spray Nine products. He was a long time member of the Moose fraternity and an avid music lover.
Stef had a passion for playing sports. He was one of the founding members of the Meco Softball Park where he played for years. He enjoyed golfing in the Groupers at Nick Stoner, playing basketball at the YMCA, bowling at Kobuski's, and trout fishing in the Adirondacks. Stef also loved combing the Gulf beaches looking for sharks' teeth. He was a card playing enthusiast and even created a baseball-themed solitaire game that he played for over 70 years.
He lived a full life, loved by many friends and family. Stef is survived by his brother John Schwed of Mayfield, NY, his daughters: Brenda Jayne (CJ), Amy Comanzo (Doug), and Jennifer Rocca (Charles). Eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jo Schwed, and his son, David.
Stef will be remembered for his quiet generosity, charitable spirit, and many friendships. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
No prior calling hours.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
