Stephanie Ann (Gomes) Duncan, age 86, of Sheboygan Falls and formerly Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, at Prairie Crossing Apartments.
Born on August 26th, 1937, to Victor and Dagmar (Wiman) Gomes in New York, NY, Stephanie graduated from Roslyn High School (on Long Island, NY) and Mount Holyoke College (with a major in Art History). She married Jan Duncan (of Mamaroneck, NY) and went to work for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where she focused on the mysteries of Etruscan art forgeries. After a year or so scrutinizing counterfeit pottery, she embarked on an entirely new set of mysteries when her two boys came along. The family eventually settled in Green Bay, where Stephanie became the executive assistant to the Dean of St. Norbert College for fifteen years.
She was highly active with her family, friends, and community, as a member and supporter of countless clubs and organizations (such as PEO, the Neighborly Dance Association, Green Bay Botanical Gardens, the Tuesday Shakespeare group, and multiple bridge groups) and as an enthusiastic organizer and reveler in many ski trips and rotating holiday gatherings with her group of friends (who were like family to her).
Throughout her life, she was intensely interested in and proud of the doings of her children and grandchildren, constantly researching what they (and their spouses and friends) were up to and providing mountains of unconditional love and support. She will be fondly remembered for her artistic knowledge and sensibilities, love of reading, delicious Swedish meatballs, beautiful gardens, and devotion to every bird that came to feast at her birdfeeders.
She is survived by her sons, Eric Duncan (Gail Wilke) of Sheboygan and Chris Duncan (Donna Graves) of Berkeley, CA, and her four grandchildren, Alice Duncan-Graves (Cambridge, MA), Abigail Duncan (Marshfield, VT), Breck Duncan (Philadelphia, PA), and Malcolm Duncan-Graves (Bellingham, WA). She is also survived by a variety of beloved "four-legged grand pets'' all of whom were prominently featured on her refrigerator door. She was preceded in death by her parents, her aunts (Alvhild DeLong and Vally Segerdahl), and her husband (Jan Duncan).
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, with a brief memorial service at 2:00 pm at Suchon Funeral Home, 1317 State Road 67, Plymouth, WI 53073. Her ashes will be buried next to her husband at a family plot in Highland Mills, New York.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff of Prairie Crossing (Pine Haven) for making Stephanie's transition to her new home so seamless. She spent eight very happy months there and we were blessed to have so much time with her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary or Green Bay Botanical Gardens in her honor.

What a wonderful woman she was. I am so thankful our paths crossed in PEO and Monday Shakespeare. We shared our love of cats as well. Blessing to her family.
