Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Svcs., Inc. - West View on Sep. 10, 2025.
Stephanie L. Garbe, age 43, of Ross Township, with loved ones at her side, peacefully entered Heaven on September 8, 2025, following complications from Stage IV esophageal cancer- just 14 days after her diagnosis. Though she was called home far too soon and will be deeply missed by her family and friends, her unwavering kindness, unconditional love, deep compassion and her care for others will be a lasting testament of her earthly journey.
She was the heart of her family -- the beloved daughter of Anna Mae (Toner) and Thomas Garbe; deeply devoted sister of Stacey Cote (Josh) and Shannon Deal (David); and a treasured and adored aunt known lovingly as "Bubbs" to Tyler (Godson of Stephanie), Logan, McKenna, Alaina, Augie (Godson of Stephanie), Arlo, and Aurora. Stephanie was a cherished niece of Patricia Payne (Thomas), Patricia Douglas (late Jack), the late Mary Ann Bishop (late James) and the late Thomas Toner. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, countless loving friends, and her dog, Brownie. She was warmly embraced in Heaven by her grandparents Frederick and Anna Mae Garbe and Thomas and Claire Toner.
Stephanie is also survived by her loving boyfriend, James Guentner Jr., who stood by her side with unwavering support and care throughout the final days of her journey.
Stephanie was an honors graduate of North Catholic High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Duquesne University majoring in Accounting Systems. After beginning her professional career at KPMG, she pursued additional education and earned her law degree from the Duquesne University School of Law where she was managing editor of the Business Law Journal and a CALI Award recipient.
She joined the PNC Financial Services Group (PNC) in 2010 and recently celebrated her 15 year service anniversary as a Vice President and Program Management Manager for Community Affairs and the PNC Foundation. During her years at PNC, Stephanie was strongly committed to helping others and developed strong enduring relationships with PNC's community partners. She championed PNC's support of Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh's annual free health clinic, A Call to Care, including volunteering at the event annually, co-chaired PNC's United Way Corporate Campaign, and served on the United Ways's Board of Directors as the NextGen Committee Co- Chair. Among her many other projects, she provided charitable advice to the Guardian Medical Service Dogs for Veterans organization. Outside of PNC, Stephanie was strongly involved in the community serving for ten years on the Board of Bethlehem Haven, an emergency shelter and day program providing long-term solutions to benefit homeless women, including two years as chairperson. She also served on the Board of Crisis Center North and also led the ATHENA Awards Program of Greater Pittsburgh and was a member of the Junior League.
