Stephanie Koshay Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 10, 2025.
Stephanie Anne (Saph) Koshay, 83, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, with her husband of 61 years, Joe Koshay, at her side. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Stephanie was born on October 24, 1942, to Camilla (Shields) and Valentine R. Saph in St. Clair, Michigan. She was raised in Marine City and graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1960. Shortly before graduating, her brother Val introduced her to Joe Koshay of Port Huron. The two dated, fell in love, and were married on April 4, 1964, at Holy Cross Church in Marine City.
As a devoted Navy wife, Stephanie accompanied Joe to postings at Naval Air Station Moffett Field in California and Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida. When Joe completed his service, they settled in Crystal Lake, Illinois, where they raised their growing family of four children.
Stephanie always missed the river and her hometown roots. In 1987, with their children grown, she and Joe moved back to the water-to a home on Catholic Point-where they spent many happy years together.
A lifelong runner, Stephanie was known for her energy and discipline-often running up to 15 miles a day. She was also deeply compassionate, volunteering at a nursing home in Crystal Lake and bringing warmth and kindness to everyone she met. Known as the "hostess with the mostest," she loved gathering family and friends for large holiday celebrations filled with joy, good food, and laughter.
Summers found her boating on the St. Clair River or relaxing at Lighthouse Beach in Port Huron, while winters were spent cozy by the fire with Joe.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Visions AFC of St. Clair for the exceptional care they provided to Stephanie.
Stephanie is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Koshay; her daughter, Camille (Koshay) Steiner; her sons, Joseph Koshay Jr., Kevin Koshay, and Stephen Koshay; her grandchildren, Doug Koshay, Devin Koshay, Max Steiner and Ava Steiner; her brother, Jay Saph. She was preceded in death by her parents, Camilla and Valentine R. Saph; her brother, Valentine A. Saph.
