Stephen Babin Obituary

He was born on April 17, 1938 in Plainfield, NJ and lived in North Plainfield, NJ; Martinsville, NJ, and finally settling in Covington, LA where he spent the last 21 years. Prior to moving to Covington, he worked as a Science and Math teacher in the Scotch Plains Fanwood School District as a middle school teacher before retiring after 25 years of service. After teaching, his next passion was nursing. He worked at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ, Somerset Medical Center, NJ, and Lakeview Hospital, Covington, LA, where he became the Administration Director of the Lakeview ER for 12 years. He ultimately retired from nursing in 2023. He was loved by many for his devotion in the medical field.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Michele LaFontaine Babin and his children, Michael S. Babin and his wife, Rebekah, Stephanie Babin, and Jill Accomando and her husband, Jerry along with his six grandchildren: Ryan Accomando, L. Alexander Trusty, Sean Accomando, Jackson Babin, Fiona Babin, and Cassidy Babin. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Babin and sister, Nancy Babin.
Family members and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Mass on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 3:00 pm and the visitation will begin 1:00 pm, at E J Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA.

Steve, Mr. Babin, was my seventh grade science teacher. He was the first adult to ask, "What is your name and what do you like to be called?" He was a great teacher and years later he was a neighbor. Thank you, Mr. Babin, for making every student feel seen. My condolences to the Babin family.
