Stephan E. Bolling of Upper Black Eddy, PA, passed on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Steve, the son of Ellis L. Bolling and Ruble Shortt Bolling, was born in Kingsport, TN on May 4,1948. He grew up in Pound, VA. His musical talents bloomed early. He began playing the piano (by ear) at age 5. "Green Door" and "This Old House" were two of his favorites. He also played the French horn, oboe, and drums in his high school band.
Steve graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a BA in History and a MA in Austrian History. His career was in contract compliance. He worked first for The Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, TN and Aiken, SC (Savanah River Plant). A reorganization at the federal level moved him to The Department of Labor. His new locations were Macon, GA and Charleston, WVA. In the 80's, he made the decision to "sit on the on the other side of the table." He was employed by Praxaire Inc. in Danbury, CT. In the early 90's he became an independent consultant in contract compliance. He retired at the beginning of 2025.
Steve was an avid reader, both fiction and nonfiction. He also loved his dogs. His first dog, Queen, was a stray that his father rescued from the streets of Kingsport. The breed that stole his heart was the Labrador Retriever. He and his partner, Ronald Berardi, rescued many Labs in their 24 year relationship.
Steve is survived by his sister, Carol Bolling Yoakley-Terrell, two nieces, Deborah Ince Piskura and Patricia Ince Baldwin (daughters of his deceased sister Diane Bolling Ince and husband William Ince), and Lynne Berardi, daughter of Ronald Berardi, and Brett Allen, husband of Lynne Berardi.
Services will be private under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home/Central Bucks Crematory, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Steve's memory to Brookline Lab Rescue, Inc., PO Box 638, Warrington, PA 18897 or www.brooklinelabrescue.org
