In Loving Memory of Stephen Grant Bonesteel

August 29, 1950 – September 3, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Grant Bonesteel, age 75, who left us peacefully on September 3, 2025 after a courageous 13-year battle against cancer.

Steve battled through pain with the same toughness he showed in life, meeting every challenge of his illness head-on. He was deeply supported by his wife Denise, sister Debbie, and surrounded by the love of his children, Chrissy, Mandy and Stephen.

Steve was born to Beatrice (Walker) and Charles Bonesteel Sr. on August 29, 1950, in Almont, Michigan. He attended Brown City High School. A hardworking and self-made man, he built a successful career in construction, being the proud owner of S. G. Bonesteel Home Improvement company. His craftsmanship can be seen throughout Lapeer County and beyond.

Steve shared a life-long bond with his best friend and cousins, Terry Bonesteel, and Val and Dena Stratton. Their friendship was full of love, inside jokes, and decades of unforgettable memories. Steve shared an especially close bond with his sister Debbie and they were always there for each other no matter what.

Steve is survived by his wife: Denise Bonesteel (Moles-Harris) of London, England; children: Cassandra (Chrissy) and spouse Michael Galen of Imlay City, Mandy (Aaron) Bonesteel-Kratt of Lapeer, Stephen Bonesteel (Savannah) of Lapeer; granddaughter: Ami Galen and partner Adam Hunter of Imlay City, grandchild: Syrus Sanborn; great-grandsons: Michael and Lucas Hunter , stepson Scott Harris (Tina), and step grandson Sebi of Budapest, siblings: Carol (Ron) Verran of Peck, Barbara Miller Spencer of Naples, FL, Shirley Bonesteel of Lapeer, Debbie Howell (Keith Kiser, husband) of Ada; Aunt: Janette Panduren of Lapeer and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ami (Nancy Skalecki), his brother Charles Bonesteel Jr., and his parents Charles Bonesteel Sr. and Beatrice Walker of Lapeer.

In keeping with Steve's wishes, cremation has been arranged by Jansen Funeral Home, and his immediate family are privately gathering to celebrate his life. Steve's spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the traditions we keep, and the people he loved most.
