Stephen James Buck, 76, of Rockport/Lamar, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1949, in Alpena, Michigan.

On January 4, 1970, Steve married the love of his life, Vicki Voorhis Buck, and together they shared a devoted marriage of over 55 years. He was a proud husband, father, and Papa, whose greatest joy came from his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Buck; his mother, Lillian Marjorie Buck; and his brothers, Kenneth Buck and Robert Buck. Steve is survived by his wife, Vicki; their daughter, Terri Buck of Phoenix, Arizona and son, Matthew Buck and his wife, Sarah, of Arvada, Colorado; and his two beloved grandsons, Nathan James Buck and Stryder Stephen Buck. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Buck Turner (husband Bob), and his brother, Michael Buck (wife Nancy) and numerous adored nieces and nephews.

Steve will be remembered for his sense of humor, his devotion to his family, his bravery, and his unwavering love of country. A proud Vietnam combat veteran, he was awarded two Purple Hearts and five Bronze Stars for his service. He was a dedicated member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His love for his country was matched only by the love he held for his family.

He especially cherished his time on the Texas coast, where he enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and sharing stories that always brought laughter to those around him. But his proudest role was being Papa. He delighted in cheering on his grandsons, passing along wisdom, and creating memories they will carry forever.

The family would also like to express deep gratitude to Vicki’s amazing community of neighbors, whose unwavering support and kindness helped sustain her through Steve’s illness and passing. In Steve’s final months, Vicki was surrounded by an extraordinary community who walked alongside her. Their kindness, meals, prayers, and countless acts of love carried her through some of the hardest days, and the family will be forever grateful for the way they wrapped her in care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3, 2026 at The Lamar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or The Lamar Volunteer Fire Department.

Steve’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
