Stephen Colunga (Steve) was born in San Antonio Texas on June 26, 1957, to Romulo M. and Elvira E. Colunga. He passed away on December 17, 2024 at the age of 67.
Steve grew up in Somerset, Texas and attended Somerset High School where he played football. His love for music was evident from an early age as well as his interest and ability to retain facts and trivia from history, politics, culture, and music. He played the trumpet in the high school band and learned how to play the guitar. Steve went to Texas Lutheran College where he graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1979. His work history includes banking, corporate finance, entrepreneurship, and most recently, he was Director of Finance at Alamo Community Group.
Steve, an audiophile, dedicated much of his free time learning about speaker technology, sound engineering and passionately learned about all genres of music. He sang in the San Antonio Choir and supported the symphony, opera and other musical organizations in the area. In addition, Steve enjoyed trying new and different eateries and was the go-to person for a good restaurant recommendation. His conversation and quick wit were always a fun addition at any gathering.
He is preceded in death by his father Romulo M. Colunga, and brother-in-law Richard D. Relyea. Survivors include his mother, Elvira E. Colunga, his siblings, Elva C. Mattox and her husband Joseph E. Mattox, Miriam Relyea, and Rene B. Colunga. In addition, he is survived by nephews Joseph Christopher Mattox and Benjamin Noel Mattox and niece Emelyn Grace Relyea as well as other family members and friends.
A gathering will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. at Brookehill Funeral Home at 711 S. E. Military Road in San Antonio.
The Colunga family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Ronald MacDonald House Charities of San Antonio.
