SSgt (Ret) Stephen Daniel Cook felt the call and served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 2000-2009 as a C-17 and C-130 Maintenance Crew Chief, earning an Air Force Commendation Medal. He also spent 110 days in Iraq, eating nothing but chili and cold sandwiches. Stephen served in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Djibouti, Pakistan, Poland, Germany, Turkey, Syria, and Greece, which was his favorite deployment. He was a member of the unit that initially set-up Balad Air Base in Iraq. Stephen also served in the Air Force Honor Guard for one year.
Stephen had a giving heart and was always wiling to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance. He would always say, "I don't have any money to give you, but I can give you my time, and my time is worth more than money." He would also often say, "It'll be alright" and "It's fine". He also had tremendous love for the outdoors. Stephen enjoyed fishing, and especially deer hunting. Within the past year, he joined the Kilbourne Volunteer Fire Department, to which, like anything else, he gave his all. He forged many strong bonds during this time.
