Stephen “Steve” Curtis Counts, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, the 23rd of September 2025. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to all that knew and loved him. He was born on the 8th of November 1942 in Charleston, West Virginia to Charles Clifford Counts and Alma Theadora (Murrill) Counts Cole. He loved his family and his country, and was a proud 20-year veteran who served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant before retiring in June of 1980 from Lackland Air Force Base and then continued service to his country as a civil servant for another 22 years.
Steve is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Carol (Milam) Counts of Bloomingrose, West Virginia; his daughter, Darlene Carol (Counts) Fitzpatrick and Sean Corbit Fitzpatrick of Bedford, Texas; his grandsons Joshua Alan Jenschke, Justin Aaron Jenschke, and John “Jack” Randolph Fitzpatrick (and Gina Grace Soto); his granddaughters Jessica Ashley Jenschke and Megan Ashley Fitzpatrick (and Michael Joseph Sarver); his great-grandsons, James Curtis Stephens, Stephen Alan Jenschke, and Easton Asher Jenschke; his great-granddaughters Hope Ashley Jenschke and Lily Elaine Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Shirley Christine Jenschke Counts, his father, his mother, his brother Alan Counts, and his twin sister Leslie (Counts) Decker.
The visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Wednesday, the 1st of October 2025 at Lucas Funeral Home located at 1321 Precinct Line, Road, Hurst, Texas 76053. The Memorial Service will immediately follow at the same location. Interment will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 at precisely 1:00 pm (procession to line up in Lane 2 at the gate).
