Stephen Decker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation & Funeral Services of Tidewater on Feb. 12, 2026.
Norfolk - Stephen Emery Decker "Stevie D," a beloved husband, father, papa, and brother, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 68. Born on October 9, 1957, in Norfolk, Stephen spent his life bringing joy and warmth to all who knew him.

Stephen was raised in Norfolk, where he grew up with a strong work ethic instilled by his parents, Peter Decker and Irene (Norge) Decker, who preceded him in death. He attended school through the 11th grade, and went on to dedicate his career as a truck driver for the family-owned business, Joe M. Decker Inc. Scrap Metal. His dedication to his work was matched only by his love for his family and his passion for the great outdoors.

A man of many interests, Stephen cherished the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, often sharing tales of his adventures with those around him. His love for travel took him to many places, but it was the beach that always called him back, where he found peace and relaxation in the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun.

Stephen is survived by his devoted wife, Diane (Byington) Decker, whose love and support were constants throughout his life. He leaves behind his cherished daughter, Jesica Decker, and two beloved grandsons, Elijah and Leo Coleman, who brought immense joy to his days. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph and Chris Decker, and his sister, Donna Rowland, along with a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Diane would like to give a special thanks to Greg Kallam Sr. for his friendship, love, and caring support throughout Stevie D's tough journey.

A celebration of Stephen's life will be held on March 8, 2026 at 1pm – 4pm at VFW Post 4809, 5728 Bartee St. Norfolk, VA 23502 for friends and family to gather, share memories, and honor his legacy. Cremation & Funeral Services of Tidewater is assisting Stephen's family during this difficult time. Please share memories and express condolences at CandFServices.com. Stephen's family request rather than sending flowers, consider a memorial donation to Diane.

In our hearts, Stephen Emery Decker will forever be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering love for those around him. May he rest in eternal peace.
