Stephen Burr "Steve" Hughey, age 77, passed away peacefully with family on February 4th 2026, in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was born to the late Alonzo and Hilda (Edsall) Hughey in Montour Falls, New York; He graduated from Corning East High, attended art school in New York and served in the US Air Force.
Steve was an artist who learned hand lettering and turned the sign trade into a business for many years. As a hobby he restored antique automobiles, and built and remodeled houses. Steve, accomplished just about every creative form of visual art there is: painting, drawing, ceramics, stained glass, neon, sculpture, photography, and textile.
Steve was a fun-loving free spirit who lived life to the fullest. He was an artist, a jokester, and a creative soul who inspired so many. He made friends wherever he went, shared his love, and helped many through hard times.
Steve is survived by his three daughters, Clover Ryan, Melonie Caldwell, Hiedi Kuenzli; his brother, Monte Hughey; a granddaughter, Livia Holland Kuenzli; two nieces, Doreen Robie and Stacie Kilburn Rooney; and his nephew, Gregory Hughey. Steve was predeceased in death by both his parents and sister Andra (Hughey) Hackett.
A celebration of life of life will be held on June 27, 2026, 11am at Kenyon Funeral Home 214 W. Main St. Elkland, PA 16920. He will then be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery.
