Stephen Kassab Obituary

Stephen John Kassab, 65, of Bloomfield Hills passed away on February 2, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born on August 19, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, Steve lived a life full of meaning as a loving father and husband, loyal friend, natural leader and talented businessman.

Steve is survived by his wife of 32 years Peggy, and by the three people who made him proudest in the world: his children Emma, Shelby and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred (Andy), David (Nicole) and Peter (Kelly), 13 nieces and nephews, and a circle of cousins with whom he remained close to throughout the duration of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nancy, and his brother Louis.

A gifted athlete, Steve spent his early years playing baseball before finding his stride in soccer, culminating in a state championship win as Captain of the Lahser High School team. He carried that athleticism to Miami University, where he played club soccer and made many lifelong friends through his Sigma Chi Fraternity. Steve especially loved skiing and golf, pursuits that reflected both his competitive spirit and his appreciation for spending time outdoors with good friends.

Steve's work ethic showed early, starting with paper routes as a boy, and small businesses launched with friends during his high school years. In his late 20s, he founded Kasco, Inc., a general contracting firm specializing in healthcare that he built based on quality, honesty, and integrity. Some of Kasco's notable projects include building the Corewell Health Proton Beam Therapy Wing, multiple renovations of the UofM Presidents Residence and the UofD Mercy Lillie B. Kassab Student Mall. Steve intuitively understood that long-term success came from strong relationships with clients and employees alike, and he led with loyalty, trust, and respect. That philosophy became both his legacy and the foundation of his success.

Despite his professional drive, Steve mastered the art of balancing work with family and fun. He always prioritized spending time with his kids, whether it was traveling, coaching, or attending sporting events to cheer them on. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his children grow.

A consummate host, Steve loved entertaining friends by cooking an incredible meal, opening a good bottle of wine, and filling a room with laughter and conversation. He was able to make every gathering feel effortless and meaningful.

The story of Steve would not be complete without mentioning his favorite place on earth, Pointe Aux Barques, Michigan. From the sandstone cliffs to the stunning beaches, its beauty never ceased to amaze him. Steve was thrilled to find a community that attracted family and friends, and he enjoyed spending summers there sailing, playing golf, cooking, and enjoying one of his favorite pastimes… relaxing!

Steve will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, led naturally, and made life better for everyone lucky enough to know him. He was a devoted family man and a great friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.

The family will visit with friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Vasu, Rodgers, & Connell Chapel) 32515 Woodward Ave, Royal Oak on Saturday, February 7, from 3:30-8:00pm and Sunday, February 8, from 2:00-7:00pm.

On Monday, February 9, visitation will begin at 10:00am followed by a service at 10:30am at the funeral home. The service will be livestreamed here: https://server.attend.live/static/event/J6EKK
