Calling hours celebrating the life of Stephen Douglas Long, 71, of Granville, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark; 5-7 P.M., Friday, January 27, 2023. Private funeral services will be held for the family, with inurnment following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Steve died at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Friday, January 20, 2023. He was born in Newark, Ohio on November 8, 1951, to the late Frank A. and Anna V. (Brooks) Long.
A graduate of Newark High School and a United States Navy Veteran, Steve retired from Ross-IGA and worked in the IT Department of the Trane Company for 25 years.
Steve was a handyman and enjoyed working in the outdoors, using his tractor and keeping a vegetable garden. He was an avid OSU fan, and loved to work in his kitchen, cooking and baking for his family.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Lori (Fisher) Long; children, Ariel Long, Matt (Sarah) Long, and Leah Rogers; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Grace, Nicholas, and Henry; siblings, Nancy (Tom) Wentz and Dave (Marilyn) Long; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Stephen D. Fisher; and sister-in-law, Pam Long.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Steve's name be made to Ohio's Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
