Stephen Hobson Martin, 73, of Zebulon passed away on January 11, 2026. He was the son of the late Joseph Howard Martin and Janice Davis Martin.
Steve is a member of the Roanoke Rapids High School class of 1970 and continued his education at Atlantic Christian College with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Minor in Business Administration. Steve had an extensive career over many years in the banking industry, retiring as Vice President of his last bank in VA.
He was a passionate dog lover, having had many “Fur Babies” with Stuffy, Chablis, Sadie, JD, Reba and Maddie to name a few. He was fond of saying,“Dogs love you unconditionally, no matter what your faults may be”.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Joseph “Joey” H. Martin, Jr. and wife, Patricia of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Dawn M. Barber and her husband, Marc of Apex, NC; and a special friend of many years, Donna Morris of Goldsboro, NC. He is also survived by his nephew David Barber, wife Lindsey and their children Tripp and Harrison of Raleigh; two nieces, Kimberly Barber of Raleigh, NC and Catherine B. Foster, husband Harry and their children Katla and Oslo of Lynchburg, VA; a special friend and long-term caregiver, Linda High also holds a special place in his heart as he says goodbye.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at Askew Funeral Services, Jackson Chapel from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday January 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Conway Cemetery with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dogs with a Purpose via https://www.dogswithapurpose.com or to the charity of your choice.
