Stephen Anthony Mayer, 78, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at his home in
Brunswick, MO. Funeral services will be held at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. Pastor Martin Brooke will officiate the service. A visitation will precede the service on Friday from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Higginsville, MO with full military honors.
Stephen was born on February 24, 1947 in
Philadelphia, PA, the son of Stephen F. and Marjorie (Dodd) Mayer. On September 9, 1966, at 19 years old, Stephen was drafted into the United States Army and trained as a Senior Tracked Vehicle Mechanic. During the Vietnam war, Stephen served in the A Troop, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment in the Army's 4th Infantry Division ("Ivy Division"). During his time of service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army Marksmanship badge (M-14), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and one Overseas Service Bar. Stephen honorably served his country until September 2, 1968.
After his military service, Stephen worked as a mechanic for several shops and owned and operated his own shop in
Bosworth, MO for a number of years. He also worked for Prairie View State School in
Marshall, MO as a supervisor for 15 years before his retirement in 2005.
Stephen was a God-fearing man who loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed talking on the phone, yard work, trains, NASCAR, NCIS, and watching Kansas City and Philadelphia sports, including the Chiefs, Royals, Phillies, and Eagles. He was a member of the American Legion.
Stephen is survived by his four children, Suzy Springfield Campbell and her husband Joe of Carrollton, MO, Steven Raymond Mayer and his wife Gina of Triplett, MO, Kelly Ann Mayer of Triplett, MO, and Mike Anthony Mayer of Columbia, MO; five grandchildren, Devan Springfield-Corf, Darren Cooper, Ivy Mayer, Aiva Mayer, and Cage Ervie; five great-grandchildren, Zane Oden, Dyllan Corf, Couper Springfield, Aurora Cooper, and Memphis Cooper; one sister, Deloris Mayer; and his best friend, Greg Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Marjorie, and his beloved wife, Yvonne.
Pallbearers will be Stevie Mayer, Dyllan Corf, Zane Oden, Darren Cooper, Garrett Sartain, Mike Mayer, Couper Springfield, and Mike Patterson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the
Wounded Warrior Project or
