Stephen S. McGowan, 84, died peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021. He is survived by Stasia, his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 58 years. Together they raised five daughters: Stephanie, Maureen, Patty, Karen, and Tara. He enjoyed spending time with son in laws John Bangs and Matthew Dyer, and was the proud grandfather of Courtney, Karen, Stephen, Zofia, and Cash. Stephen is survived by a large loving family: siblings Mary O'Toole and Peter McGowan, and many nieces and nephews. The family had numerous traditional celebrations; Fritter Fries in Framingham, Fourth of July at the McGowan house, Christmases in Somerset (especially Mary's cookies), and G&T's. A Somerset High School Hall of Famer who earned a full football scholarship to play at Boston University (class of 1960), Stephen was a lifelong athlete. He logged endless hours on golf courses and tennis courts competing with friends and family. And later in life, enjoyed attending local high school and college sporting events. After graduating college Stephen worked in the trucking and warehousing industry, ultimately owning and operating Bos-Taun Warehousing in Charlestown. When not at work, he appreciated the natural world; calling for owls and bird watching, swimming in the rivers of New Hampshire, and body surfing at Horseneck Beach. Stephen supported several charities including the Mass Audubon Society, the Red Cross, Alzheimer's Association, and the Salvation Army. In lieu of flowers please send donations in his name. A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, on Thursday, September 2nd at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Thorny Lea Golf Course, 159 Torrey St., Brockton on Thursday September 2nd at 12:30 PM.

My dad Arthur Good spent many hrs watching football , basketball and baseball games with Steve. I also have great memories of Steve who has been to my house for football parties and Brockton High football games! The big laugh was always your dads great high school foot ball career at Somerville high school! He was a great man, funny and a good friend to my dad! They are together now watching football from the heavens! My condolences to your whole family!

To the McGowan family, I am sorry for your loss. I cherish the memories of the time I spent with Steve, playing golf at Ridders, DW Field and other spots, in addition to Indian Mound in NH on boys weekends and the trips to Dick Nash´s place in Florida. We also enjoyed both HS and BC basketball games together. Sincerely, Jeff Toussaint

Stasia, Stephanie, Maureen, Patty, Karen, and Tara(resting in peace), know that your father was my best friend! I will all ways remember the great times we had playing golf (among other activities)
especially in New Hampshire on the Indian Mound
Golf Course with Rick Nash and his father Dick.
Steve was always the go to guy if you needed a win. He taught me how to hang in no matter
how far behind you were. Now he is in heaven
making nothing but birdies and eagles!!
Rest in peace and glory Steve!!

To Stasia and family, thoughts and prayers for your loss.
Many great memories of Steve. Playing tennis and golf, weekends in New Hampshire and traveling to Florida with our clubs to break up the winter. As we got older, a group of us old guys' would be out a couple of nights a week going to sporting events and learning from Steve how it was done at Somerset.
Rest In Peace my friend.

To my Grandfather-

I haven’t seen you in a while and wish I could have seen you just one last time but know that you’re loved and my memories of you will thrive. From trying to find owls and hawks in the back yard, going to King Phillip rock and learning & teaching me about Native Americans, going to many historical parts of Massachusetts, climbing Mt. Monadnock with Karen on our last journey with her, teaching me how to use tools & building bird houses in the garage, watching 747’s fly by, mornings after sleep overs with blueberry pancakes and fried kielbasa you cooked on the grittle, playing golf on the side yard next to the pool, watching weather on the 8’s, and many many more! Always know that you will be missed and loved

Rest in glorious Paradise
