Obituary for Stephen W. Morgan
Stephen W. Morgan (Steve), beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed into the arms of the Lord July 27, 2025, at his home in the City of Shasta Lake with loved one's present. Steve put up a great fight with prostate cancer for more than 18 years. Steve was the only child of Lt. Cmdr. William Burrows Morgan and Claire Ann Morgan (Whitney). He was born on May 3, 1943, at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California.
Steve grew up in Vallejo. He attended St. Vincent School. He had fond memories of coming up to Toyon and Summit City and staying with his Aunt Margie and Uncle Jimmy and cousins Brian, Eileen, Gerry and Andy Church every summer until he was 16.
As a child, Steve worked delivering newspapers to Mare Island and even was a deckhand on the ferry that brought the workers to the shipyard. He had a job waiting for him as an apprentice electrician after he completed his active duty in the Navy's Submarine Service. He worked at the Shipyard building and overhauling submarines for 32 ½ years and had to take early retirement at 52 ½ years old when the shipyard closed in 1995. Even taking the submarines out to sea on sea trials to test the boats.
He was very proud of his service to his country as a submariner, as an interior communications electrician, petty officer 3rd class. His training boat was the Pampanito. He qualified on the Medregal and served on the Catfish and Carbonero. He was a very proud Vietnam Submarine Veteran. He had many stories that he often shared with friends, family and anyone who would listen.
Steve was a coach for PAL soccer in Vallejo and served on the Shasta Lake Youth Soccer League as President and Referee Coordinator. He had the opportunity while working for the Dept. of Defense in Iceland to play and referee soccer matches with the locals. He loved his soccer.
He was a member of American Legion Post 720, Elks, Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor 77, Cuttlefish Base, and life member of the Holland Club.
He served his community as a firefighter outside Red Bluff, District 4 Supervisor, and member of several civic committees and boards including the Shasta Lake Fire Protection Board, LAFCO, Mosquito and Vector Control Board, First 5 Shasta, Youth Options and many more.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, father-in-law, sister-in-law and first wife, Linda. He is the proud father of Michael (Kirsten), Marc (Rhoda), stepfather to Andrew (Shannon) and Joseph (Christina); Tractor Grandpa to Jacob, grandfather to Julie, Alexis, Sophia, Esten, Catherine and Jack, great-grandfather to DeAngelo.
Steve was married almost 27 years (August 1) to Pamelyn, his partner in life for 32 years.
There will be a ceremony at the Igo Veteran's Cemetery on August 26 at 2pm, and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Larry J. Farr Community Center in Shasta Lake on September 20. Contact Pam for more information.
