Stephen (Steve) A. Newman, 74, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, after a courageous and unwavering 26-year battle with cancer.
After living in many places across the country including Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, New York and California, Steve spent his final years here in Asheville, North Carolina.
Even during the most difficult times, Steve faced his illness with strength, grace, and a quiet determination that inspired everyone who knew him. He is remembered for the love, laughter, humor, and countless cherished memories he shared with family and friends over the years. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, and friend, passionate fan of music and arts, insatiable intellectual, and avid golfer. He found peace and joy on the golf course-a place where he felt truly alive and connected.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Wendy Newman; his son, Will Newman; daughter, Rachel Newman, sister in law, Janet Newman and his nephew, Andrew Newman.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered support throughout Steve's long journey, and to Four Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care in his final days. In honor of Steve's memory and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Four Seasons Home Hospice Care and Elizabeth House for the special care they gave to Steve.
Steve's spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely. May he now find peace-and the perfect round of golf.
A private celebration of life, at his home, will be held sometime in mid-June. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Stephen (Steve), please visit our floral store.
