Stephen N. Piotrowski, affectionately known as "Pollock" to his friends, was born on June 10, 1946, in Lochgelly, West Virginia. He was the son of Francis L. Piotrowski and Frances Walthall Piotrowski. On October 23, 2024, Stephen transitioned from this life at the age of 78, at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Matthew Piotrowski; and daughter, Elizabeth (Justin) Matheny Cooper. He also leaves behind two sisters, Patricia Bonner of Chatsworth, GA, and Sara Stone of Wilmington, NC; a sister-in-law, Aileen Bell of Locust Grove, VA. His grandchildren, Jonathan (Alexis) Cooper, Lilly, Morgan, and Nicholas Cooper, all of Kentucky, were a joy in his life. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Wheelock and Ferna Williams; two brothers, Walter Piotrowski and Willie Piotrowski; and a grandson, Kaleb M. Cooper.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Stephen proudly served four years with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a dedicated outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting, fly fishing, and crafting his own fly rods. Stephen passed on his love of these activities to his grandson Jonathan, his son Matthew, and spent cherished time trapping with his partner, Steve, at the Oleo Ranch. In recent years, riding his Harley alongside his friend Tommy was one of his greatest pleasures. Together, they traveled countless miles along West Virginia’s scenic highways, carefully marking a map to remember the roads they explored.
Stephen will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will continue to cherish his memory and the legacy of love he leaves. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum, P.O. Box 790, Maggie Valley, NC 38751. wheelsthroughtime.com
