Stephen Mont Rasmussen, 78, of Farmington, Utah, passed away on March 15, 2025, in Farmington, Utah.
Born on March 5, 1947, in Provo, Utah to Glen Mont and Pauline Bailey Rasmussen. Stephen graduated from BY High School where he met many of his lifelong friends. Stephen loved music and participated in both the Chorus and the Band. He was a three-sport athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball. His senior yearbook had this to say about him-
He was a very good athlete but did not have much to say about school except, "it was nice, especially on gamedays." [End quote]
He went on to graduate from Brigham Young University where he majored in history and was very involved in clubs and organizations. Stephen met his wife, Susan Phillipson of Glendora, California, while attending BYU. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple on October 29, 1971. Stephen and Susan had 5 children and spent many wonderful years raising their family in Southern California, specifically in LaVerne, California and then in Tustin, California. Stephen owned his business in Orange, California for many years. Many friendships were made in the 40 years spent in SoCal.
Stephen and Susan moved to Utah in 2012 to be close to family while raising their young granddaughter. The last 13 years in Utah were spent enjoying their grandkids' lives and many events. Stephen also found so much happiness working with Premier Funeral Services as a Funeral Service Director. He loved his coworkers. Stephen was known for his unconditional love of others, his friendly demeanor, making friends wherever he went, and keeping in touch with lifelong friends from all the different phases of his life. He loved his family fiercely and was very involved in his grandkids' activities and knew them all by the nicknames he'd given them and the details of their lives and personalities. He would do anything for Susan and was always ready to fix anything and looking for ways to help.
He served in many capacities at church, including a two-year mission to Chile. He loved the camaraderie with all his friends from the many wards he served in all his life.
He was a proud alumnus of BYU, and an avid fan of all BYU sports. Stephen loved watching professional sports. He was especially fond of the Dodgers, following them from the time he was a young boy in Provo, Utah and throughout the remainder of his life.
Stephen suffered a stroke in February 2024. Susan and his son Alex dedicated unending care and attention every day of his life after the stroke. There were days when we thought he'd get better, but after a year, Stephen passed away with Susan by his side. His happy personality and pure love for others will be missed by many.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan, his daughter, Jessica Sunderland (Bobby) of Kaysville, UT, his daughter Melissa Nielson (Eric) of Farmington, UT, his son Alex Rasmussen of Kaysville, UT, his daughter Shauna Rasmussen of Lawndale, CA, and his 8 grandkids, Lexi, Rex, Lilly, Ella, Trent, Wade, Norah, and Luanne. Stephen is also survived by his siblings, Linda Smith (Bard), Russel Rasmussen (Tammy), Janet Larson (Brent), and Karl Rasmussen (Ronda).
He is preceded in death by his son, Scott Allen Rasmussen (1979-2000) and his parents Mont and Pauline Rasmussen.
A graveside service to celebrate Stephen's life will be held at the Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Mt Pleasant, UT.
Stephen's love for others and outgoing personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
