Stephen Roberts Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 20, 2024.
Stephen Mitchell "Mitch" Roberts, 60 of Fayetteville, AR passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, in Fayetteville after a sudden illness. He was born September 20, 1963, in Tulsa, OK, to Stephen Brown Roberts and Eleanor Mitchell Roberts. Mitch was a graduate of Richardson High School in Richardson, TX, and Texas State University.
Mitch was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Mitchell Roberts.
He is survived by his father Stephen Brown Roberts and wife Margie Nancarrow, his two daughters, Mia Walker Roberts and Ava Jacksie Roberts both of Fayetteville, AR, sister, Adrienne Roberts Scott and husband Chad Scott, stepsister Cristy Smith and husband Tim Smith, nieces Lexi Scott, Emma Smith, and nephews Tyler Smith, Kade Scott and wife Lauren Scott, and his loving partner Bridget Schultz.
He retired after a thirty-five year career in television broadcasting, having won a sportscasting Emmy Award and culminating in his induction into the Sportscasters Hall of Fame. After his broadcasting career he began a successful second career, becoming the Vice President of Sales for Unishippers, and recently transitioned to sales with Worldwide Express. His greatest accomplishment, however, was being a loving and supportive father to his daughters.
Mitch was known as a cheerful and enthusiastic father and friend. He gave much of his energy toward the raising of his two daughters, his creative professional work, his playing and enjoyment of music, playful time with his dog "Joe" and being a dedicated sports fan. Mitch had a gift of making people feel valuable. His engaging and loving personality made him a friend to many. His days at the Elks Lodge were some of his best while enjoying time with friends around the pool or for dinner.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, August 23rd at the Elks Lodge in Fayetteville on Crossover Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter.

Mitch was my first standout student at Southwest Texas. He was my good friend in his senior year in San Marcos, my first year as a full-time broadcast journalism instructor. We shared many meals, many football games and a million laughs, and we played tennis and golf frequently. He was bound for stardom as a reporter, anchor and analyst and he and I kept up with each other through the years. We had great times when he would visit San Antonio at Fiesta Week each spring for many years. Mitch was a talented singer and songwriter when he wasn't busy with sports in Laredo, Lafayette, Las Vegas, Nashville, South Bend and Arkansas. Everybody who knew Mitch knew him to be a friendly guy, a bright and witty gentleman and a person who could be counted on. Mitch was and is an all-time friend who "led the league in fun" all his life.

Stephen was a kind and wonderfully helpful man. He also had a terrific sense of humor and could always make me laugh, particularly when I needed a good laugh. I think that he will be dearly missed by so many.
I'm very saddened to hear of his passing. God bless his family.
