Stephen G. Roth “Pap”June 12, 1945 – June 7, 2025

Stephen G. Roth, affectionately known as “Pap,” passed away at home with loved ones next to him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering devotion to family. Born on June 12, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve spent his life rooted in Hoosier values- family, hard work, and a love for all things Indiana. A true sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of the Colts, Pacers, Fever and IU, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.

A curious mind and compassionate soul, Steve dedicated nearly 30 years to Eli Lilly & Company as a Senior Research Scientist, where his work contributed to life-saving medicines for diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. His career was marked by quiet dedication and a sincere desire to improve lives.

After retiring in 1997, Steve embraced his love of adventure, traveling across the United States to take in the roar of NASCAR races and the beauty of the country. He was happiest on the road with family by his side and a race on the horizon.

Above all else, Steve was a family man. He was the deeply proud and devoted father of Shannon Duckworth (Craig) and Kelley Burton (Pete), and the adoring “Pap” to his beloved grandchildren Walter, Ben, Albert, and Heather. He is also survived by his brother Frank Roth (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

He now joins in peace his parents, Frank and Marie Roth, and his sisters, Rosemarie Dewey and Barbara Doerr, whose memories remained close to him throughout his life.

Steve’s warmth, humor, and fierce love for his family made every gathering brighter. His gentle guidance, generous spirit, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In his honor, take a moment to hug your loved ones a little tighter and maybe catch a race on a sunny Sunday afternoon — just as Pap would have loved. The family kindly asks that you honor Steve’s memory by supporting the United Ostomy Association of America- a cause that mattered deeply to him.
