Stephen "Steve" Raymond Salisbury, 76, passed away on October 17, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on December 16, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late, Zina and Michael "Mike" Goloforo
Steve lived a life marked by his passion for the outdoors and his skills as a craftsman.
He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his early years. After his military service, he channeled his disciplined and meticulous nature into his work as a carpenter and contractor. Steve was renowned for his ability to transform simple pieces of wood into beautiful and functional artworks, such as statues and chopping boards. His perfectionism was evident in every piece he created, and he relished the challenges his craft presented.
Beyond his professional life, Steve was an avid hunter, known especially for his prowess in deer, hog, and turkey hunting. His favorite moments were spent in the tranquility of nature, whether tracking game in the woods or tending to his garden. Steve possessed a green thumb, cultivating an array of flowers, plants, and vegetables. He took great joy in sharing his gardening knowledge, often helping friends and family he was often the go-to person for those struggling to keep their plants thriving, generously sharing his extensive knowledge.
Steve's legacy is carried on by his wife of 56 years, Lourdes "Lou" Salisbury, and his daughter, Angela M. Salisbury/Brabham, along with son-in-law, Danny Ray Brabham. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Lucy, and his sisters, Carol Williams and Marion Guidry Spencer. Steve was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews: Lisa Hadley (Jay), Shannon Bach (Larry), Tommy Melerine Jr. (Brenda) Joseph Melerine (Michelle), Frank Goloforo Jr. (Beth) Chrissy Bach (Jeremy), Kim Bach (Trey), Zina Guidry, David Goloforo, Michael Goloforo (Anna), Michael Bach (Sherrie), Debbie Spurgeon (Charlie).
Also, survived by his great nieces Amanda (Lane), Ashley (Ben), Sheila, Alexandria, Shanna (Nathan), Jade, Damien, Darrin, Monica, Olivia, Gabriella, Holly, Angelle, Nicholas (Penny), Jessica, Jennifer, Brittany, Drew, Zachary, Billy, Kyle, Jake, Mylie and Mealyn
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zina and Michael "Mike" Goloforo; his sister, Josephine "JoAnn" Melerine; brother-in-laws, Tommy "Pops" Williams and Frank Spencer; his nephew, Russell "Rusty" Goloforo; and sister-in-law, Gayle Bach (Boodie)
Steve's legacy will also live on through his many hunting buddies in Brookhaven, MS, including JB McCarroll (Dana), Kevin Glass (Janie), and Emile Gennaro (Paula), who shared many adventurous and memorable expeditions with him.
Steve Salisbury's life was a testament to his love for nature, his country, and his community. He will be remembered as a man who never backed down from a challenge, whether in his craft, in the wilderness, or in life itself.
His family and friends will remember him not only for his skills and hobbies but also for his spirit of generosity, his teaching, and his unwavering courage to face any challenge.
A phone call with Steve never ended in "BYE," instead it was always "LATER."

Metairie, LA 70001 on Monday, October 28, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am with a service at 12:30 pm followed by interment.
