Stephen H. Sauer, 75, of Parkville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at North Kansas City Hospital. He was born in March of 1950 in Kansas City, the middle son of Elwood E. Sauer and Fern L. (Leonard) Sauer, who preceded him in death.
On November 18, 1978, in Kansas City, Mo, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jones.
Steve attended North Kansas City High School, his Senior year. He worked for KCUMB for 25 years. He was a member of the Northgate Builders, who worked on churches across Missouri. Steve attended Northgate Baptist Church (later Briarcliff) for over 46 years with his wife, Carolyn.
Steve was a master in all of his crafts, especially woodworking. He had many other talents including painting, drawing, refinishing and upholstering furniture. He and his son-in-law, Chris, often worked on various remodel projects, building decks together was what they did most. Steve was an avid baseball fan. In his youth, he played in the Hermann Baseball leagues, he later joined the Northgate baseball team where he earned the nickname 'Stretch'. Riding his motorcycle and camping trips with the family were his favorite. Steve's last camping trip was in October of 2023. He and Carolyn went to their favorite spot, Black Hills, South Dakota.
Steve's greatest assets were his family. He worked hard to provide, to teach, and no matter the cost or inconvenience to himself, he always stuck by his word. He was a husband, who truly adored his wife, a father who fathered with love, compassion, and empathy. He was a grandfather whose whole world revolved around his grandkids. He was a dear friend to many, with friendships that lasted over 40 years.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sauer and his three children: Dave Sauer, Vicki Phillips (Chris) and Adam Sauer; five grandchildren, Tayler, Miranda, Brendan, Alana, and Adam; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and soon to be Maliah; two brothers, Charles (Bev) and Rodney Sauer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his Stepdad, Walter Poeschel and his grandson, Gage Phillips.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, 1:00 pm at Briarcliff Church in Kansas City, MO.
