Stephen John Schmid
July 30, 1951-December 7, 2024.
Steve passed away with the same quiet dignity and strength that defined his life.
Steve is survived by his wife and best friend, Diane, and his precious daughter, Julia Rose.
Steve graduated from Manhattan College as a civil and environmental engineer. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Hartsdale, New York, for over 30 years.
Steve enjoyed watching and talking about sports, working on cars, relaxing vacations, reading, and dining out. He was more of a listener than a talker.
Steve was passionate about rigatoni, napoleons, and anything baked with cinnamon. He often talked of the German bakery his parents owned when he was young.
Steve was one of the kindest and most loyal people you will meet. His trademark big smile and deep love for his extended family and friends were woven into the man he was. He was also well known for his dad-joke sense of humor.
In honor of Steve's memory, you may consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Regional Hospice.
Diane and Julia Rose want to thank our family and friends who have supported us through Steve's last few months.
A private funeral is planned.
