Stephen Phillip Seder

Stephen Phillip Seder, age 80, passed away on December 26, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Susan Seder, nee Gennis, to whom he was happily married for 56 years; loving father of Scott (Ellen) Seder; adored grandfather of Samuel and Jonathan Seder; beloved son of the late Seymour and the late Frances; cherished brother of Susan (Paul) Freehling; treasured uncle and friend to many.

Stephen lived a remarkable life rooted in Chicago. For 50 years, he lived on Hyde Park Boulevard-years filled with family, friendship, tennis and a deep love of the South Side. Though his life also took him to the Homewood-Flossmoor community, he ultimately returned to Hyde Park after retiring from business, always drawn back to the neighborhood he called home.

After graduating from Washington University and Emory Law School, Stephen chose to enter his family's business, Seder's Inc., immediately following graduation. He worked at the up-scale apparel store from 1970 to 2002. Over the years, the business became a valued part of the Homewood-Flossmoor community, operated by generations of Seders serving generations of customers. Stephen loved playing tennis, and spending time with his many close friends and family. Most of all, he loved his wife Susan and treasured all of their moments together.

Service Friday, 12 Noon CT at Oak Woods Cemetery Chapel, 1035 E. 67th St., Chicago. Interment will immediately follow.
