Stephen Alan Henke, age 69 of Markesan, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at UW Hospital in Madison, WI.
Stephen was born in Waupun, WI on February 11, 1956, son of Harvey and Margaret (Miller) Henke. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan. He spent some of his earlier years working at local farms, instilling in him a strong work ethic and appreciation for hard work. He had a lengthy career at Sigma in Markesan, known previously as PMI. Stephen began his journey there at the young age of 19 and devoted an impressive 50 years to the company. Throughout his time there, he formed close bonds with his co-workers, who he considered family.
Sparrow was not only known for his dedication to his job but also for his kind-hearted nature. Many remember him fondly from his earlier days when he would win stuffed animals from claw machines and generously give them to children he met along his path. This simple act of kindness encapsulated the loving and friendly spirit that defined him. He had a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Sparrow enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting or fishing, and found joy in playing pool and darts with friends. He was often seen at the Hornet's Nest or Last Chance, always with a cold High Life Beer in hand, sharing laughter and stories with those around him. Sparrow leaves behind a legacy of kindness, memories, and a community that will dearly miss him.
Stephen is survived by his siblings, Joyce Pierce, twin brother, Stanley Henke, Shirley Henke; numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is further survived by his loving adopted family, Craig (Amy) Muenchow; Holly (Collin Zirbel) Muenchow, Abby (Connor Gray) Muenchow and little buddy Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his fiancé, Jessie Gutierres in 2020; parents; brothers, Harvey (Sue) Henke Jr., William (Rose) Henke; brother-in-law, Gerald Pierce and his nephew, Donald Wolc III.
