Stephen Stritch Obituary

Stephen Stritch, Jr.

April 27, 1928 - January 2, 2025

Stephen J. Stritch Jr., 96, of Northfield, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Thursday January 2, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the loving son of the late Stephen J. Stritch Sr. and Margaret (Dunlea) Stritch. Stephen was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Mary (Bradley) Stritch; and his beloved son, John Stritch.

Steve served his country proudly and faithfully in the U.S. Coast Guard. He then served as a Philadelphia Police Officer where he retired after 30 years of service. Steve then moved to South Jersey where he opened Harrah's Casino as a Security Supervisor. Thereafter, he could be seen at the Tilton 9 Theater as a Doorman before retirement.

Steve always had a smile on his face that was contagious along with the most beautiful blue eyes and a remarkable sense of humor. He was well known for riding his bike along the bike path, spending time with his family and trying to decide "where are we going for dinner"? He was a man of great faith-never missing Mass and he never fell asleep without rosaries in his hand. He lived for his family! His family was his world. He truly pioneered the phrases, "Best Dad in the world" and "Coolest Pop ever"!

Steve will be missed and fondly remembered by his children, Stephen (Deborah) Stritch, Maryann (Thomas) Rubino, Patricia (Francis) Iannello and James Stritch; grandchildren, James, Patrick, Stephen, John, Mary Megan, T.J., Stephanie, Demitry, Nicholas, Joseph, Angela, and Patrick; great-grandchildren, Collin, Ryan, Logan, Aidan, Charlie, Macie, Leo, Lily, Sonny, Rocco, Beau, Hank and Anthony.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Stephen's Mass of Christian Burial on Monday January 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church located at 724 Maple Ave., Linwood, NJ 08221. A visitation will be held at the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen's memory to the American Diabetes Association www.donors.diabetes.org.

I had the pleasure of working with Stephen at Harrah's. He was one of the very first people I met during orientation. Though I had opened Playboy and the Tropicana I was a little nervous about starting at an established property. Stephen made me feel welcome and was unfailingly kind. When I would take my daughter (who is now thirty) to the movies Stephen would always make a fuss over her. He always made her feel special. And me too for that matter. Rest in Peace old friend. Prayers for your family.
