Stephen Lynn Stum, 75, of Flower Mound TX, passed away on October 29, 2024. Born on April 8, 1949, in Madisonville Kentucky, he was a devoted husband to Sharon Stum and a loving father to Deanna, Lisa, Connie and Adrian.
Steve dedicated his life to serving others, which was evident in both his home, work and church. He served in the Air Force Search and Rescue during the Vietnam War. After discharge, he worked as a police officer with the Irving PD. In 1978 he became a firefighter / police officer and EMT for the DFW Airport. He also served as a team member on the Critical Incident Stress (CIS) team. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions. He was never idle, and if he did slow down, you would usually see a book in his hands.
Steve was a servant by the very definition of the word. Beyond serving his community as a first responder, he was also a Deacon, photographer and Head of Security with his church. He also served as an Officer in the State of Texas Vietnam Veterans Association. He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Steve's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. In retirement, he enjoyed watching his son and grandkids participate in their athletic and scholastic activities. He also enjoyed assorted 2nd Amendment activities, often spending his weekends keeping the world safe from those pesky paper silhouettes and animal shaped pieces of metal. He was also known to exercise his first amendment rights from time to time. His love for freedom and country was something he shared with his whole family, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, children Deanna and her husband Lee Eggleston, Lisa and her husband Nick Messer, Connie and Adrian, his grandchildren Austin, Taylor, Zane, Reeves and Shep, his brothers Ed and Tom (who preceded him in death), as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 9, 2024, at 11:00 am at Shiloh Church 6500 Cross Timbers Rd. (Hwy 1171) in Flower Mound. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers, a cause close to Steve and Sharon's heart. To donate in honor of Steve, you can call (718) 987-1931 or go to T2T.org.
We find comfort in knowing that Steve's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
