William Trainham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home - Lewisville on Feb. 11, 2026.
William L. "Bill" Trainham
September 29, 1939 – February 8, 2026

William L. "Bill" Trainham passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, with his family lovingly by his side. Born on September 29, 1939, to Walter and Linnie Trainham in Benjamin, Texas, Bill grew up with deep roots in his hometown community. He graduated from Benjamin High School before earning his degree in chemistry from Hardin-Simmons University in 1963.

Bill began his career teaching and coaching at Benjamin High School before moving to Alamogordo, New Mexico, to continue his work in education. It was there that he met the love of his life, Penelope "Penny" Pappas. The two married in Alamogordo in 1966 and soon built a life filled with devotion, partnership, and joy.

Bill, Penny, and their growing family later moved to El Paso, Texas, where Bill enjoyed a long and successful career with the El Paso Natural Gas Company. Following retirement, Bill and Penny relocated first to Lubbock, Texas, and eventually settled in Denton to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Retirement allowed Bill to embrace the hobbies he loved most. He was an enthusiastic traveler, photographer, golfer, fisherman, cook, and an avid student of Texas history. His kitchen talents were well known, and his biscuits and gravy were especially beloved and often requested. Above all else, Bill cherished time spent with his family.

Bill will be remembered as a spiritual, kind, and humorous man whose steadfast love for his family and friends shaped every part of his life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his son, William S. Trainham of Dallas, NC; his daughter in law Rhonda Trainham; and his granddaughter Hannah Trainham. He is also survived by his daughter, Cynthia Wentworth of Corinth, TX; his son in law, Scott Wentworth; his grandson Zach Wentworth (Sarah) of Alexander, AR; his grandson Michael Wentworth; his granddaughter Kate Baker (Cash); and his granddaughter Anna Wentworth. He is also survived by his sister, Joy Jones, and brother in law Charles of Benjamin, TX, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Penny Trainham; his parents, Walter and Linnie Trainham; his twin brother, Robert "Bobby" Trainham; his sister Peggy Hertel; and his brother in law Walter Hertel.

A celebration of life service will be held on February 16, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home, 740 S. Edmonds Lane, Lewisville, TX 75067.

Interment will take place on February 17, 2026, in Benjamin Cemetery, Benjamin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the Benjamin Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 292, Benjamin, TX 79505, the Dementia Society of America, or the charity of your choice.
