Pleasant Valley - Stephen Teed Jr., 88, died on December 27, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
He was born on May 30, 1935 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late Stephen and Lois Teed.
A native of Hopewell Junction, he attended grade school in a 3 room school up to the 8th grade in Hopewell Jct. He then went to Wappinger Central School where he graduated from in 1953. He attended Dutchess Community College majoring in chemistry.
Steve was drafted in the Army early 1954 and was stationed in South Korea for 15 months. (6 months in a combat zone). He was in the 51st Signal Battalion I Corp.
After the Army Steve worked at Texaco Research Center in Glenham, NY as Chemical Technician for 9 years then joined IBM in Burlington VT and East Fishkill for 27 years. He has 2 patents with IBM. He is also an Emeritus member of The North American Thermal Analysis Society (NATAS).
Steve married the love of his life, Alice Joyce Seifts, on April 7, 1956. They were gifted with three sons and one daughter, Stephen and Ann Miceli Teed, James and Bernadette Caprara Teed, Michael Teed, and Nancy Teed; eight grandchildren, Michael and Katie Teed, Nicole and Jay Kees, Joseph and Elisha Teed, James Teed Jr., Shaina Teed, Chelsea and Daniel Mulroy, Jason and Kerri Teed, Stephen Peter and Corina Teed; twelve great grandchildren, Jackson, Devin, Carson, Addison, Alena, Perry, Ella, Nora, Logan, Lincoln, Carter and one more on the way; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Betty of Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Irene and son Stephen. He was always happy being with his family.
After retiring, Steve and Alice spent six months living in Venice, FL for the winter. Steve and Alice lived in the Town of Wappingers for 41 years, then Pleasant Valley at the present.
Steve played baseball in the late fifties in the Twilight League in Beacon, NY for Texaco Research. He was always proud of his.458 batting average in 1959. He also played fast pitch softball for Texaco and in the IBM fast pitch league. He was inducted into the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1998, and was inducted into the Dutchess County Sports Museum Hall of Fame in 2015.
He was also an avid golfer and always will be. He also bowled for the Texaco Handicap League at the Holiday Bowling Alley in Wappingers.
He is a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Chapter 005 Mended Hearts. He coached little league baseball, senior league baseball, and CYO basketball. His CYO team at St. Mary's Fishkill won the Upstate Championship for the Smallfry A boys (11 years old) in 1971. He coached for about 16 years in those sports. He was also very proud of all the boys he coached in those sports.
A Memorial Mass is being offered on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 10 am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville, NY.
