Stephen Turchyn

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Stephen Turchyn, 82, an area resident since 1987, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 12, 2026. He previously lived in the Bronx.

Born in the Ukraine on August 12, 1943, Stephen was the son of the late Josafat and Kateryna (Hewka) Turchyn. He was employed by Gestetner in Yonkers and then retired from Alcoholics Anonymous in New York City where he served as a data processing supervisor.

An avid outdoorsman, Stephen enjoyed camping, biking, hiking, kayaking, hunting, and competitive shooting. He was a member of the Mid-Hattan Gun Club, the New York City Auxiliary Police, and had been a Boy Scout Master.

On September 5, 1965 at Sacred Heart Church in the Bronx, Stephen married Frances (LaRosa) Turchyn who survives at home after 60 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sons, Peter Turchyn and his girlfriend Jacqui of Redondo Beach, CA, Thomas Turchyn and his wife Jeannine of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Christopher Turchyn of Hermosa Beach, CA; his grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Kevin and his wife Madison, Jillian and her husband Bruce, Michael, Ethan, Valkyrie, and Gunner; his great-grandchildren, Athena, Cleo, and Atlas; his sister, Mary Dublanyk and her husband Theodore; and his nieces and their husbands, Danielle and Jim and Tanya and Donny.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 18th from 4 - 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Thursday, February 19th at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
