Stephen Walton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home & Crematory - St. Petersburg on Jan. 2, 2026.
Stephen A. Walton, 71, of Pinellas Park, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2025, after a long, challenging fight with polycystic kidney disease. Stephen was one of the longest kidney transplant recipients in Florida, having had his transplanted kidney for a total of 34 years.

Stephen was born on June 25, 1954, to Willard and Rosamond Walton in Middletown, New York. After Stephen graduated from Northeast High School in 1972, he went on to study civil engineering at the University of South Florida.

After graduating with a degree in engineering, he started his first job at Misener Marine Construction Company as a Waterfront Structural Engineer, kickstarting a 40-year career in structural engineering, and ending his career with Schneider's Engineering and Consulting. He was involved in designing many bridges, cruise ship docks, and refinery docks in the southeast region of the United States, and the islands.

In 1974, Stephen met Cindy while she was working at Publix, and it was love at first sight. Stephen and Cindy got married in March of 1979, and they had many wonderful adventures and memories together since then.

In 2022, Stephen retired and spent his time traveling around the United States with Cindy, and spending quality time with his family. Stephen enjoyed going to the Rays and Lightning games, golfing, building and racing cars, and watching his grandnephews and grandniece in all of their school or sport activities. Stephen was a big supporter of his family and friends and loved them all very much.

Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Willard and Rosamond Walton, as well as his beloved sister-in-law, Santa Walton. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; his brother, Richard Walton; his nieces, Kristin Newton and her husband, Jesse, Cheri Murphy and her husband, Justin, and Samantha Miker. He is also survived by his grandnephews, Landon, Liam, and Nolan, and his grandniece, Kaylin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Suncoast Hospice, Moffitt Cancer Center, or the USF Engineering Program, which are all organizations that Stephen felt strongly about. Stephen will be truly missed by all of his family and friends, but we know that he is now at peace and no longer in pain on this earth. Until we meet again, we love you and miss you.
