Stephen Farlin Wyrick was born on April 3, 1942 in Ocala, Florida. He passed away on July 27, 2025 in San Antonio Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Phillip Wyrick and Ida Stephens Wyrick, infant sister Blanche Wyrick, brothers Alvin James Wyrick and Ralph Phillip Wyrick, Jr., sisters Marian McCampbell and Deborah Evans, daughter Cassandra Lynn Wyrick Clark. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Diane Tarrillion Wyrick, daughters Leigh Anne Wyrick and Stephanie Gonzalez, two grandsons, two granddaughters, one great- grandaughter and one great-grandson, several nieces and nephews. Stephen spent his childhood and youth in Knoxville, Tennessee. He joined the Air Force immediately after high school which brought him through San Antonio and he returned there with his wife and daughter 4 years later after his assignment in Germany ended. After leaving the Air Force he went to work for Handy Andy grocery store. He volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War in 1969 and therefore extended his time with the Air Force and also joined the National Guard. He remained in San Antonio for the rest of his life. During his miliary career he was accepted into the Explosive Ordinance Training program of which he was very proud and, luckily, very successful, since he survived each disarming. Stephen ventured into the jewelry business by opening a jewelry store near Lackland AFB. He eventually learned, mostly by self-training, to make jewelry. He became a jewelry manufacturer and Gemologist and spent the rest of his working career (approximately 40 years) designing, manufacturing and selling jewelry. In the 1990s Jewelers of America started a Certification program for "bench jewelers". He was the first jeweler in Texas to obtain the title of "Certified Master Bench Jeweler" by Jewelers of America. He also won design awards from the Texas Jewelers Association. In 2004 he designed and manufactured a Chalice and Paten for Diane's nephew who was being ordained as Catholic priest. He was very, very proud of this accomplishment and touched by the religious meaning of these pieces. His life experiences also included many trips to Africa and Belgium to mine, purchase or polish rough diamonds. In the course of these many trips he also traveled to other countries. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Grand Brook Memory Care Facility (formerly Memory Care of Westover Hills) for their excellent care and love for Stephen over the last 4 and one-half years. Services will be held on Thursday, August 7 at 10:30 am. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 E. Summit Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78212 with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, those interested may make a contribution to any Veterans association of their choice or the Alzheimer's Association.
