Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Saturday.
Sterling Green, Sr. was born in Loreauville, Louisiana on May 10, 1935, to the late Bernard Green, Sr. and Frances “Sweet” Thomas Green. For many years, he dedicated himself to his career as a mechanic in the oilfield. He had a strong work ethic and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
A huge boxing fan, Sterling held a special admiration for the legendary Muhammad Ali. The fighting spirit and tenacity of Ali inspired him and brought joy to his life. Mr. Green also found peace and happiness in nature; he cherished the quiet moments spent fishing and hunting during his younger years. Sterling had a particular fondness for zydeco music, finding rhythm and joy in its lively beats. He also had a profound love for horses, which led him to become an active member of a trail riding organization. Riding the trails brought him immense joy, allowing him to connect with nature and foster friendships with fellow equestrians.
Mr. Green leaves to cherish his memory seven children, Janelle Derouen (Billy), Sandra Simon (John), Connie Williams (Phillip), Rosalind Sims (Samuel), Wanda Celestin (Joel), and Carissa Smith (Leighton), and Sherman Green (Mercy); sisters-in-law, Hazel Bailey and Gloria Bourda; brother-in-law, Joseph Bourda (Margaret); 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Sterling “Stud” Green, Jr., Sherwin Lee “Chubby” Green, and David Shawn Green; former wife, Mary Alice Bourda Green; and siblings, Albert Green, Alphonse Green, Bernard Green, Jr., Beatrice Green Delahoussaye, Frances Green, and Louise Joseph.
Mr. Green was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
