Steve Allen Base, age 74, of Osceola, passed away at his home on February 21, 2026. Steve was born January 15, 1952, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Marvin M. and Reatha J. (Carpenter) Base. On May 1, 1993, he married Deanne Cripe in Elkhart, Indiana, and together they shared many years of love and companionship.
Dee survives, along with his daughter, Sarah Rueda, and his grandsons, Braden and Isaac Rueda, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Rick (Marilyn) Base, Gary (Deb) Base, and Hope (Rick) Ort. Steve was preceded in death by his brothers, Eric and Mark Base.
Steve was employed for many years as a machine operator, later working in shipping and receiving with KampCo and eventually Versitile Machine until his retirement. He took pride in his work and the friendships he made along the way.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed the simple things in life. He liked building model cars and took great pride in caring for his yard. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, whether at local lakes, the St. Joseph River, or along Baugo Creek. He also enjoyed tent camping and spending time outdoors.
Steve had a special love for classic cars and enjoyed owning and working on several favorites, including his ’57 Chevy, ’70 Chevelle, and ’71 Nova. Music was always part of his life, and he loved attending concerts, especially those featuring his favorite artist, Elvis Presley. Some of his favorite moments were spent dancing with Dee.
Steve will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and his quiet way of putting others before himself while expecting nothing in return. He loved his family deeply, was known to be an excellent cook, and cherished every moment spent with his grandsons.
