Steve Brem, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Ankeny, Iowa on February 11th , 2026.

Steve was born on December 9, 1946, and grew up in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Robert and Mary (Gill) Brem. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1965 and

went on to attend Upper Iowa University, where he earned his teaching degree, later continuing his education at the University of Northern Iowa, obtaining his Master of Arts in Education.

On December 13, 1969, Steve married his loving wife, Bert Brem, and together they shared two children, Matt and Stephenie. Throughout his career, Steve dedicated himself to education, teaching in numerous school districts including Fayette, Oelwein, Keota, Dallas Center–Grimes, North Polk, and Des Moines Public Schools. He was especially proud of his work as a guidance counselor.

He was known for his love of the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, morel mushroom hunting, or working on conservation efforts for Canadian geese. He especially cherished sharing these experiences with his grandsons. He also deeply loved his dogs, who were his constant companions and trusted partners while hunting.

Steve is survived by his spouse of 56 years, Bert Brem; his children, Matt (Jana) Brem and Stephenie Brem Owen; his grandsons, Logan, Evan, Aidan and Gavin; his sister,

Janie (Jeff) Warden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary (Gill) Brem; his brother-in-law, Kent Kimball; and his beloved uncle, Wilson Gill.
