A lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, Donald Stephen "Steve" Foster, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 79 on Friday, August 29, 2025. He was born on October 2, 1945, in Vincennes, IN and raised by his parents, William and Delores (Snyder) Foster.

Steve married Peggy Carter on January 17, 1969, in Robinson. For 56 years, they raised their family and truly enjoyed their life together.

After graduating from Lawrenceville Township High School, Steve entered into the United States Army. He served two tours during Vietnam. Upon returning home, Steve continued to serve and protect by joining the Lawrenceville Police Department in 1967. He became the Chief of Police in 1971. He served the Lawrenceville Police Department for 29 years until his retirement. His work and dedication as a police officer earned him an invitation to the FBI Academy. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Steve worked with Gray Wholesale for 15 years.

Steve liked to stay active. He could be found in his shop woodworking during the colder months and doing any and all kinds of yardwork as soon as the weather was nice enough. He was outdoors as much as possible. Spending time with his family was very important to him, and he soaked up every second of it.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Those remaining to carry on Steve's legacy of love and devotion include: his wife- Peggy Foster of Lawrenceville; two sons- Donnie Foster of Lawrenceville and Matt Foster and his wife Lisa of Bridgeport; two step-children- Scott Roberts and Jamie Shidler and her husband Robert all of Bellevue, NE; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents- William and Delores Foster; one son- Brian Foster; and one brother- Ronald Turney.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Funeral services will follow immediately at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital directly or through the funeral home. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.cunninghamfuneralhomes.com.
