Stephan Harris Obituary

Stephan Bernard Harris, 61, of Round Lake Park, IL, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Washington, D.C., he was a beloved son to the late Wallace Robert Harris, Sr. and the late Laura Lily (nee Patterson).

Steve, as he was called by his family and many friends, was: a loving husband to Elizabeth; a father who cherished his daughters Erica Baker and Jasmine Harris, a proud step-grandfather to Amir Bryant, and an adoring brother to his siblings: sisters Paulette (Edward Simms), Denise (Carlton Jackson), LaVonne Snowden, Sheila (Luther Jones) and his big brother Wallace, Jr (Geonisa). He also held a special place in his heart for his mother's sister, Aunt Tish Crawford. He is survived by his father's sister Shirley Chambers and Doris Gaskins, as well as six nephews and five nieces.

From 1982 to 1990, Stephan honorably served in the United States Army, traveling across the nation and overseas to Germany and Greece. Most important of all, in the Army he met fellow serviceperson Elizabeth Apolinar, who would become his wife, his soulmate, for nearly 40 years. After their military service ended, Steve and Liz moved to Illinois, where her parents lived, and started their family. Steve built a successful career in retail management, working with various companies and earning the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

Stephan had many passions that reflected his vibrant spirit. He loved cooking, singing along to his favorite old-school jams, and spending time outdoors maintaining his home, garden, and cars. A devoted sports fan, he enjoyed football-especially cheering on the Washington Commanders-basketball as a die-hard Los Angeles Lakers fan, as well as tennis and golf. His humor, warmth, and joyful outlook on life brought laughter and light to everyone around him.

A devoted Baptist, Stephan's faith was the foundation of his life. His commitment to God was evident in his kind heart, generosity, and the unconditional love he shared with family and friends.

Stephan will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, brother, nephew, and friend. His legacy of love, laughter, faith, and resilience will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew him.
