Steve Nykolajcuyk

Age 75, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at Advent Bolingbrook Hospital. A resident of Romeoville, formerly of Chicago. Steve is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Nykolajcuyk; children Annie Nykolajcuyk, Chrissy Nykolajcuyk, Stephan (Samantha) Nykolajcuyk Jr., and Jillian (William) Wright; sister-in-law Betty (the late Wally) Nykolajcuyk; brother Donny (Judy) Nykolajcuyk; grandchildren Jocelyn, Sophia, and Genevieve Nykolajcuyk, Bodie and Bennett Wright, Nicole (Matt) Chavez, Ashley Nykolajcuyk, Brendan Ridge, Jack (Jenna) Ridge, and Natalie Lesh; great grandchildren Orion, Atlas, and Zephyr Chavez, and Cleona Ridge; brother-in-law Michael (Marianne) Stawski; sisters-in-law Ellen Stawski, and Michelle (Manny) de la Rosa; many nieces and nephews; also many dear friends especially Gerry Greenwood. Preceded in death by his parents Nykola and Anna Nykolajcuyk, brother Ron, parents-in-law Michael and Loretta Stawski and his canine companion Sammie.

Steve had a deep love for the simple pleasures in life, family, nature, animals, fishing, cooking, and chocolate. An avid fisherman, fishing was his quiet sanctuary. Some of his best stories-and his best advice-came while he had a fishing pole in hand. Steve always had animal companions. Some were the family dogs, and some were the stray wildlife he would feed in the yard or try to nurse back to health. He also had a love of the screen. If there was a movie to be watched, Steve had seen it. Whether it was classic or action, he could tell you all about the movie. And cars, he loved cars. Steve had a quiet voice, but he could talk for hours about all the cars he owned, and his face would light up every single time. For him, they weren't just machines-they were memories, craftsmanship, and freedom.

Above all, family meant everything to him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Steve's legacy is one of kindness, modesty, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. His love for the outdoors, his gentle way with animals, and his unselfish nature will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His family will remember him not just for what he did, but for the love and joy he brought to their lives. He made each of us feel special; seen, heard, and loved.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday August 9, 2025, at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life starting at 12:00 pm at Anderson Memorial Home, 21131 W. Renwick Rd., Plainfield, IL 60544. Family respectfully requests no flowers or plants.

Uncle Steve, Unending Thanks for all of your Love and Support and always inspiring everyone around you to enjoy the real pleasures and beauty surrounding us. So many wonderful memories, and fortunate to have gone to Canada fishing 2X! Being a boy from the city, I could barely get a worm on my hook and you were so patient! Especially when my line got caught on the prop! You just smiled and went to work fixing what I screwed up and I must have said "Thanks Uncle Steve!" 100X. I'll never forget the little moments like after arriving to our destination, in Canada, you looked at me and said, "You hear that?" I replied I couldn't hear anything and you said "Exactly!" Peace and Quiet! Then we saw a moose and you decided we run the boat over to the beach and go chase it! Who chases a moose? We did! So many wonderful memories and I always felt special being your nephew.
Rest in Peace Uncle Steve!
Love, Doug Nykolaycuyk
