Steve Sobolewski, of Rachel, died on February 21, 2025, surrounded by his family, in the same house in which he was born, 94 years ago. He was the youngest of five children, born June 19, 1930, to the late Ignatz and Adelia Sokolosky Sobolewski who immigrated to the United States from Poland.
Steve retired from Joanne Mine in Rachel after 35 years of service. He was an excellent auto mechanic and could be found on the weekends drag racing with his son at the Eldora Raceway in Fairmont. He also loved to watch and attend NASCAR races. Another hobby of his was building and flying radio-controlled model airplanes at the Fairmont Flying Club. He loved all things electronic, getting a newer, "Faster", computer tablet at the age of 92. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, rarely missing a football, baseball, soccer, or lacrosse game.
Survivors include, his daughters, Gina (Larry) Freeland of Fairmont, Amy Sobolewski, of Rachel; his son, Alan Sobolewski of Rachel; three grandsons, Nathaniel (Madison) Freeland, Jacob (Addison) Freeland, and Jonah Freeland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Madeline Sobolewski; sisters, Sophie Lushinski, Stella Hanus; and twin brothers, John and Stanley Sobolewski.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation services were provided, and no public services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County Special Olympics and the Disability Action Center, 448 Leonard Ave, Fairmont WV, 26554. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.hutsonfuneralhomes.com. The Hutson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Sobolewski family.
