At exactly 12:22 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the world lost a steady light. Steve Devo Williams checked out from the Raclin House after 71 years of hard-earned wisdom, stubborn resilience, and quiet, unwavering love.
Born on June 29, 1953, raised in the small town of Three Oaks, Michigan, he grew up surrounded by a loving, wild-hearted family and weathered the losses of his parents, Leland D. and Mary L. (Heyn) Williams, and siblings Betty Lambert, Diane Quint, and Allen Williams with the kind of strength that comes from deep roots. His strength was in the way he carried himself, the way he showed up, and the way he never backed down from life's challenges.
A proud graduate of River Valley High School, class of '72, Steve built a life rooted in loyalty and hard work. For nearly three decades, he gave his time and talent to Suzuki Garphyttan, where co-workers became friends, and friends became family.
Family-that was the center of Steve's world. He was a devoted father who led with both strength and compassion. He raised four daughters-Margaret (Andrew) Dippell, Rebecca (Terence) Kennedy, Mariyah Williams, and Whitney Williams-with equal parts patience and fire. He taught them to stand tall, love deep, and keep a sense of humor no matter how weird life got.
His grandkids-Warren and Katin Kennedy, Dean and Steven Clarke Dippell, and Mazaiah Williams-will grow up with stories of him: tales of wisdom, Dad-joke level wit, and an odd but unshakable loyalty to those he loved. And trust me, he loved hard.
Steve is also survived by his sisters Judy Foster and Wendy Williams, and brothers Kenneth Quint and Lewis Lambert, and all those still out there who will miss the way he showed up, no matter what.
A memorial will be held to celebrate his life and legacy:

No black ties required. Come as you are. Bring your stories, your laughter, your memories. Steve would've wanted it that way.
He's gone but not gone. People like Steve don't vanish. They linger-in the smell of chainsaw oil, the feel of a good art pencil, in the sound of a good song on the radio, and in the way you keep going even when life tries to knock you flat.
Rest easy, Steve. You earned it.
