Steven Walley "Steve" Alvis

Stephen "Steve" Walley Alvis, 62, passed away peacefully at home in Hattiesburg and joined his beloved father in Heaven on December 26th, 2025.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, on October 3rd, 1963, to Dot and Jimmy Alvis, Steve was the fourth of five children. He grew up in Jackson and visited family in Hattiesburg often. He attended Jackson Academy, where he was a bright student and star athlete, particularly in football. Steve was a member of Briarwood Methodist Church in Jackson and deeply treasured Jesus Christ in his heart.
A beloved brother and son, Steve had a caring and gentle spirit. He never met a stranger and showed kindness to all he met. He had a great love of animals, especially dogs, and a passion for the ocean and fish, like his father. His bright blue eyes and sweet smile reflected his genuine love for his family and friends. He was a devoted son to his mother, always eager to help, and could often be found working in the yard or cooking on the grill.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, James Houston Alvis; sister-in-law, Lisa Alvis; and brother-in-law, Tip Wilks. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Alvis; brothers, Jim (Shannon) and David; sisters, Cindy Wilks and Jennifer (Jim) Myers. He is also survived by his uncle, Charles (Linda) Walley, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland.
