Steven Batts Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 29, 2023.
CLAYTON– Steven Lewis Batts, 70, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2023. A native of Wake County, North Carolina, he was the son of Jasper Batts and the late Frances Lundy Batts. Steven was a loving husband, father, and devoted grandfather.
Steven was married to his best friend Dale Batts for over 38 years, but spent most of their lives together as they met when she was 15. They both loved the beach and spent many of their vacations there. They welcomed their only child Cameron in December of 1987. Steven was a loving and dedicated father, who went above and beyond to show his family how much they meant to him. To Cameron, her daddy hung the moon. There was no limit to the love between the two. The family's fondness for the beach led them to have a second home at Oak Island, where they spent many summers playing in the water and flying kites. Cameron met and married Ben in 2015. Steven could not have asked for a better son-in-law and the two shared a very special relationship. Not long after, Cameron and Ben gave Steven three amazing grandchildren to love and adore, Leighton, Lucas, and Laine Gray. Whether playing, swimming, or laughing, he was always showing his grandchildren the brighter things in life and how to have fun. Steven's sister Susan passed before him, but they had an unbreakable bond as they were just 18 months apart. Steven liked to say that Susan was always looking out and protecting him, which is one of the many reasons for their closeness. Steven's niece Ashley and his great nephew Noah were a big part of his life. Steven and Noah held a special connection over Nascar, always talking races and who would win. Steven's life may have ended unexpectedly, but the amount of love he gave and received from his family was immeasurable.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Batts.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Dale Hendricks Batts; father, Jasper Batts; daughter, Cameron Elizabeth Batts Cooper (Benjamin Cooper); grandchildren, Leighton Cooper, Lucas Cooper, and Laine Gray Cooper; niece: Ashley Emery; and great nephew, Noah Emery.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 01, 2023, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, 4301 Louisburg Road, Raleigh NC 27604. The family will receive friends for a period of visitation from 1:00 pm -1:45 pm, on Sunday, October 01, 2023, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529.
In addition to flowers, memorial donations are welcome and may be made out to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dale and Cameron, I´m so sorry for your loss. Steven was my half brother and we never knew each other which I find crazy! I remember as a little girl when visiting Oza´s house, he would be in the yard working on his car and playing Led Zeppelin. I know this will be so hard on y´all and on Jasper and I just can´t believe it. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Dawn
