Merri Rebecca Nanney

Merri Rebecca Nanney, 53, a resident of St Helena Island, SC, formerly resided in Union Mills, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 23rd. She was an absolute inspiration through her steadfast faith in God and belief in prayer; which has always been her testimony in life. She prayed nightly for those she knew and loved.
Merri was born on May 21,1972 in Atlanta, GA and was the daughter of Jack & Barbara Nanney. Growing up, she always had a bubbly and happy personality that was infectious to everyone. If you were fortunate enough to meet and know her, even for a brief second, you were her friend for life. She will always be remembered for her smile that could turn anyone's frown upside down.
Merri was very talented and creative. Her passions were baking, singing with the church choir, and the creation of her distinctive art. Art was a favorite and she enjoyed working for 12 years at UMAR Art on Main in Lincolnton, NC. She learned and excelled in several types of artwork, with jewelry making and painting her favorites. The art center showcased and sold works of art from artists with disabilities. Merri was also an amazing athlete in Special Olympics. She participated and excelled in swimming, track, bocce, and cheerleading events in Fulton County GA, Rutherford County NC, and Lincoln County NC.
Merri is survived by her sisters Kaye (Mark) McKinney, Jackie (Randy) Wallace, Natalie (Leonard) Archer, and Stacey Moulin. She is also survived by 8 nieces and 2 nephews, who fondly remember her as an enthusiastic New Kids on the Block fan and their special dance parties; and 4 great nieces and 6 great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Jack & Barbara Nanney, nephew Chase McKinney and niece Brittany Nanney.
A celebration of Merri's life will be held with visitation at Crowe's Mortuary Rutherfordton, NC on Saturday the 27th of September from 11:00AM-12:00PM followed by a funeral service at 12:30 PM in the chapel of Crowe's Mortuary.
